HERO Campaign promotes
Designated Drivers
at
NASCAR Tailgate City driven by Ford
(New
York City, N.Y.) – December 4, 2008. The
HERO Campaign for Designated Drivers® teamed up with the
BLU MOON Group and the National Road Safety Foundation, to urge
NASCAR race fans to become more responsible drivers during the
NASCAR Tailgate City Driven by Ford event held in Times Square.
As the HERO Campaign handed out brochures, newsletters, HERO
decals and HERO ribbons, hundreds of fans signed the pledge to “Be
a HERO! Be a Designated Driver®” and
to “BUCKLE UP, Every Trip, Every Time”.
This event, which is part of the BUCKLE UP AMERICA Challenge traffic safety partnership
with NASCAR, was held during Champions Week and highlighted NASCAR drivers Carl
Edwards, Stanton Barrett and others, along with J Records recording artist Gavin
DeGraw. Edwards, Barrett and DeGraw have all had an ongoing commitment to traffic
safety and have each taped traffic safety PSAs.
“Champions Week is the perfect time to remind people to
buckle up and “Be a HERO. Be a Designated Driver,” stated
New Jersey Governor Corzine. “Just like the NASCAR
drivers are champions, so are the folks that make sure they and
their friends have a safe ride home after the festivities. We
want to recognize them for being heroes that help keep others safe
and recognize NASCAR for giving us the opportunity to highlight
traffic safety.”
“As a stunt man and a race car driver, safety is always
on my mind,” said Barrett, Rick Ware Racing driver of the
No. 31 Interush Chevrolet. “Wearing seat belts and planning
ahead to have a sober driver saves lives, I’m glad to help
people remember that.”
In addition to the HERO Campaign and the National Road Safety
Foundation, representatives from the states of New York and New
Jersey and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)
helped distribute information to the NASCAR fans.
Fans were treated to NASCAR driver appearances on the blue carpet,
2009 NASCAR video games, season highlight videos, the NASCAR library
collection, and more.
