Amy Weiss won the
HERO Campaign Holiday contest
with a poem about the gifts of life:

God's gift of life
Much to look forward to

Riding a bike
First day of school
Getting behind the wheel
College days
Meeting your soul mate
Eye to eye with your newborn baby
Your child walking down the aisle
Thanksgiving dinners
Creating memories with special friends
Cruises across the sea
Hugs from grandkids
Wiser from a life worth living

To experience these gifts,
you must be a survivor,
THAT'S why we need designated drivers!

Atlantic City, NJ 2/01/08 – The HERO Campaign for Designated Drivers® discovered a few special heroes this holiday season during the first ever HERO Holiday Contest to promote safe and sober designated drivers at the shore. The essay contest was promoted over five Millennium Radio stations in New Jersey between Thanksgiving and
December 31, 2007.

The competition, sponsored by the HERO Campaign for Designated Drivers@ and Coors Brewing Company®, asked entrants to submit short essays on the following topics:  “How I would help the HERO Campaign prevent drunken driving,” or “Why being a Designated Driver is important to me.”

Six winners were announced in mid-January. First place winner, Amy Weiss received a $1,000 flat screen television courtesy of Sam’s Club. Runners-up, Brian Knight (2nd place winner), Stephanie Laigaie (3rd place winner), Jamie Riess (4th place winner), Denise Foster (5th place winner), and Ella Lindenhofen (6th place winner) all received dinner for two at Harrah’s Entertainment properties restaurants or dinner and an overnight stay for two at Tropicana Casino and Resort in Atlantic City.

The Hero Campaign is a non-profit organization established by Bill and Muriel Elliott of Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey, after their son, Ensign John R. Elliott, was killed in a head-on collision with a drunk driver just weeks after graduating from the United States Naval Academy in May of 2000.
