Petition for U.S. Senate Bill 192, ÒJohnÕs Law of 2003Ó We the undersigned support U.S. Senate Bill 192, sponsored by Sen. Jon Corzine, NJ, known as ÒJohnÕs Law of 2003.Ó In memory of Navy Ensign John R. Elliott, who was killed by a drunk driver, we urge Congress to support this legislation in an effort to avert future drunk driving tragedies. JohnÕs Law would authorize police to impound the cars of those charged with Driving Under the Influence for a period up to 12 hours. The bill would further require police officers to issue responsibility warnings to those arriving at police stations to pick up DUI suspects, informing them of their potential civil and criminal liability if they help the DUI offenders resume driving while still impaired.
