Bridal Party Challenges Guests to Run and Plunge
HERO Campaign Pledge, Run & Plunge Friday, January 1st in Ocean City
OCEAN CITY, NJ (December 24, 2015) – The John R. Elliott HERO Campaign® for Designated Drivers challenges individuals and groups to plunge into the ocean on New Year’s Day to raise donations for the HERO Campaign’s mission of promoting safe and sober designated drivers.
The second annual HERO Pledge, Run & Plunge will be held Friday, January 1st, 2016 at the Music Pier, Moorlyn Terrace and the Boardwalk in Ocean City.
Although New Year’s Day dips are frequently called ‘polar plunges,’ the record high for this day in Ocean City is 66 degrees F. Since December’s unseasonable balminess is expected to linger into the New Year, 2016 could be the warmest HERO Plunge in history!
Participants can pre-register at HEROCampaign.org, where they can create their own team or donate to someone who is taking the HERO Plunge. For more information call 609-626-3880.
A 5K run on the Boardwalk begins at 1PM with the plunge at 2PM. Registration begins at 11AM for the run, and 12 noon for the plunge. Commemorative long-sleeved T-shirts are available for purchase.
Every year, this high-energy event draws participants from across the state. For their wedding in Ocean City on New Year’s Eve, Lindsay Conroy and Michael Feeley of Morris Plains, NJ challenged their guests to join in the run and plunge via their RSVP cards and wedding website.
“I have been the designated driver since high school,” Lindsay Conroy said in support of the HERO Campaign’s mission. “We have a shuttle for our guests – it is New Year’s Eve, after all, and we don’t want anyone drinking and driving.”
Lindsay said she and her husband will be running and plunging in style: “I’ll be wearing a veil and white sparkly running skirt, and Mike got a tuxedo T-shirt.”
